WHO WE ARE
Our story
Founded in March 2023, WomEconomics is a Canadian-based non-profit organization committed to empowering economics graduates especially, Women in Economics. Our mission is to break gender barriers by offering mentorship, resources, and career guidance. We strive to create a supportive community that fosters career success for women across the globe.
WomEconomics was born from the shared vision of Adewunmi Ajike and Tonia Omenyi. Both co-founders, with backgrounds in economics and leadership, recognized that women, especially from underrepresented groups, often lacked the support needed to thrive in the field.
While pursuing her master’s degree in Canada, Tonia experienced the isolation and challenges faced by women in economics. At the same time, Adewunmi, an expert in entrepreneurship and AI, saw the growing need for a community to support women’s career growth. Their shared passion for economic empowerment led to the creation of WomEconomics, providing women with the skills and connections to excel, regardless of background or location.
